Gentlemen & Scoundrels
This project invites viewers into an evening on 6th Street in Austin, Texas, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. The sequence is arranged with a sense of rhythm in mind: images rise and fall in a way that mirrors the flow of a night out. Scenes depict senseless debauchery, an abundance of live music, and unobstructed views of the “Owl Tower” that collectively serve as portraits of a vibrant 6th street society. Digital photographs were printed, then xeroxed to introduce distortion that reflects the natural imperfection of memory. What remains are obscured fragments of a care-free night out imprinted in time.
